| Abstract/Contents: | Three factors combine to cause turfgrass disease: (1) disease causer, (2) susceptable grass, (3) favorable environment for the disease causer to attack. The disease can be controlled by changing any one of these factors. The manipulation of fungicide, fertilizer, water and light, and the use of disease resistant grasses can provide excellent disease management in many cases. When cost is a limitation, consider using fungicides as a curative rather than a preventative measure. Avoid applying fungicides routinely. Try to anticipate outbreaks. Preventative use of fungicide treatments can be more costly than careful spot treatments and timely applications at the beginning of outbreaks. |
