| Abstract/Contents: | Several seed mixtures were sown on clay and clayey sand in 2 localities. Establishment was least satisfactory on soils of pH 2.2-3.0 and was also difficult on hydrophobic soils. Adding lime gave some improvement. On these clayey soils Festuca rubra, particularly the runner-forming type, and F. ovina tenuifolia were the dominant turf components. Poa annua disappeared completely after sowing, but the proportion of P. pratensis increased. Turf formation by self-seeding was noticed only with the Festuca spp. and Agrostis. |
