| Abstract/Contents: | In a trial with L. sativum as a nurse plant to suppress weed growth the seed was added at 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 g/m2 to 2 turf mixtures, but no advantages were apparent. The rapid sprouting and juvenile development of the cress prevented uniform grass germination and turf development, and the cress plants competed with the grass for light and water. Although weed growth on the cress plots was at first retarded it was finally greater than on the plots with no cress added. The 2 cress cvs used did not differ in their effects. The cress could be eradicated chemically but not by cutting. |
