Abstract/Contents:"F6875 alone and on fertilizer carriers are under evaluation by FMC for preemergence control of summer annual weeds in turfgrass. Field experiments were conducted in Griffin, GA on bermudagrass and tall fescue to evaluate efficacy of F6875 formulations for preemergence control of smooth crabgrass and turfgrass tolerance. Bermudagrass and tall fescue were irrigated, and mowed at 1.6-cm 2 d wk-1 and 7.5-cm weekly, respectively. Treatments were made on March 26, 2013 to a 'Tifway' bermudagrass fairway, and on March 27, 2013 to a 'Titan' tall fescue lawn. Smooth crabgrass ground cover increased in the nontreated plots from March to August, and measured 20% and 71% after 5 months in bermudagrass and tall fescue, respectively. None of the F6875 formulations injured bermudagrass or tall fescue. At 5 months after treatments in bermudagrass, F6875-9 at 0.86 kg a.i. ha-1, F6875-7-1 at 1.26 kg a.i. ha-1 , and F6875-7-2 at 1.26 kg a.i. ha-1 provided excellent control (ā‰„ 90%) of smooth crabgrass, while F6875-9 at 0.86 kg a.i. ha-1, F6875-9 at 1.26 kg a.i. ha-1, F6875-10 at 1.26 kg a.i. ha-1, and Echelon GR on a fertilizer carrier (prodiamine + sulfentrazone) at 1.26 kg a.i. ha-1 provided good control (80 to 89%). Echelon (prodiamine + sulfentrazone) at 0.86 kg a.i. ha-1 provided fair control of smooth crabgrass after 5 months in bermudagrass. In both bermudagrass and tall fescue fields, F6875-7-1 and F6875-7-2 at 0.86 kg a.i. ha-1 provided poor control (<70%) of smooth crabgrass. F6875-7-1 and F6875-7-2 at 1.26 kg a.i. ha-1 in tall fescue controlled smooth crabgrass 73 to 86% after 5 months. Echelon on a fertilizer carrier at 0.86 and 1.26 kg a.i. ha-1 provided similar smooth crabgrass control in tall fescue after 5 months, and averaged 85%."
