Abstract/Contents:Seed of Phleum nodosum 'S50' and Poa pratensis 'Merion' was sown at 3 depths in pure sand. In contrast to surface sowing on fine or humus-rich soils, deep sowing (0-4 cm) in sand was not only possible but desirable, since the sandy surface dried more rapidly. The light requirement of Poa pratensis in sand was either sufficiently met or less than in soil. These results were confirmed by observations made on sowings in sandy vegetation layers to which peat, Hygromull or Agrosil had been added.
