| Abstract/Contents: | Paraquat at 1 lb/acre was more effective than AP-20 at 2 lb/acre in controlling winter weeds in bermudagrass turf, but neither material gave adequate control 8 weeks after treatment. 2,4-D at 2 lb/acre, Silvex at 2 lb/acre and dicamba at 1 lb/acre gave excellent control after 8 weeks whether or not the turf had been previously treated with paraquat or AP-20. Neither paraquat at 1# nor AP-20 [cis-2,3,5,5,5-pentachloro- 4-ketopentenoic acid] at 2# proved sufficiently effective when applied on 24 March 1967 to a bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon] lawn infested with Lamium amplexicaule, Stellaria media, Taraxacum officinale and Plantago spp., though the former was more effective and quicker-acting than the latter. Excellent weed control was obtained on plots treated on 29 May with 2,4-D at 2#, fenoprop at 2# and dicamba at 1# as a follow-up to the contact sprays. |
