| Abstract/Contents: | "A field used for both soccer and rugby matches is subjected to so much wear and tear that natural grass - also hammered by rain and snow - becomes a veritable problem for the athletes and the maintenance technicians. Hence, here comes a synthetic turf surface, with soccer and rugby line makes, that will gain everyone's approval. The pre-existing situation consisted of a natural grass 11-a-side soccer field, with a surface in very poor conditions: it showed signs of deterioration and it was too bumpy and loose to face up to the coming winter season with a guarantee of good performance, especially if it had to be used for both sports. Accordingly, the intervention consisted of remodeling the field by creating a latest generation artificial turf surface on a horizontal drainage system. This was done to enhance the potential for use of the existing playfield, ensure its suitability for dual use, with line makes for both soccer and rugby matches, and guarantee excellent performance standards the year round as well as lower maintenance costs." |
