| Abstract/Contents: | "With the increasing number of varieties of Kentucky Bluegrass that appear on the market, it is important that each be identified by seed characteristics, particularly, since certain varieties are more adapted to specific areas than others. Several methods have been used to distinguish the different varieties. One method is to measure the length and width under 20X magnification and then classify the various varieties in different length and width groups. Once this has been done, other morophological [morphological] seed characteristics such as distribution of color, straightness or arching of the dorsal profile, and the presence or absence of intermediate nerve, make final varietal separation possible. Photographs (slides) to illustrate characteristics of shape and size will be shown to further illustrate the length and width variation." |
