Abstract/Contents:"Dichondra is of limited value for lawns generally throughout various parts of the world. However, in Southern California it is regarded as a desirable option to lawn grasses because of its unique growth habits and appearance. Perhaps the most limiting factor restricting its wider acceptance is the difficulty encountered in the control of certain grassy and broad leaf weeds that are highly adapted for survival in dichondra lawns. For obvious economic reasons, herbicides specific for weed control in dichondra have not recieved [received] the attention that chemical companies devote to those designed for major agricultural crops. It is expedient that such herbicides that are available be screened for tolerance and effectiveness in the control of weeds in dichondra and such is the purpose of this study. Focus is on the control of three weedy plants of diversified physiology and growth habit that constitute serious problems in dichondra in Southern California. Elements including light quantity and quality nutrient balance and levels, soil physical characteristics and management practices of irrigation and mowing were determined to be interacting influences that produced variable responses to the several herbicides among the test sites."
