Abstract/Contents:"The cancellation of labeled used of several persistent organochlorine insecticides created a need for suitable substitute insecticides for control of damaging insects on turfgrasses. During 1973-76, replicated field trials were conducted comparing several experimental insecticides and commercially available insecticides for control of larvae of the Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica Newman; larvae of the green June beetle, Cotinis nitida (Linnaeus); the black cutworm, Agrostis ipsilon (Hufnagel); the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith); and a sod webworm, Crambus sp. Results of control obtained with different formulations and dosage rates of the various organophosphate and carbamate insecticides were compared. Several presently registered insecticides as well as experimentals gave good initial control. Most were not highly persistent, especially against the soil-infesting insects."
