Abstract/Contents:"Tall fescue seedlings under shade stress were treated with sodium nitroprusside (SNP) as the donor of exogenous nitric oxide(NO). Chlorophyll contents, membrane permeability, malondialdehyde MDA) contents, antioxidant enzyme activities and Proline contents in the leaves of tall fescue under shade stress were reported here. Results showed that exogenous nitric oxide(NO) could increase chlorophyll contents, alleviate increasing of membrane permeability and MDA contents, promote accumulation of Proline contents and increase superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) activities of tall fescue under shade stress significantly(P<0.05). Membrane permeability, MDA contents, CAT activities and proline contents of TarHeel II had significant variation under shade stress. Effects of exogenous nitric oxide on TarHeel II were more than other varieties. Exogenous nitric oxide could protect tall fescue from shade stress and there were inherent differences between observed varieties."
