Abstract/Contents:"The effect of aeration on the microbial activity, moisture and organic content of soil are discussed in creeping bentgrass turf. Results show that soil microbial activity is significantly enhanced in the plot of 120 holes per square meter after two weeks aeration compared with the plots of 60 holes per square meter and control. However, there is no obvious difference between the plot of 120 holes per square meter and control after four weeks aeration. The plot of 60 holes per square meter has no obvious difference compared with control during all tested time. Aeration increases soil microbial activity in a short period, which is related with aeration density. The effect of moisture on soil microbial activity is greater than that of organic content. The thatch moisture is more closely related with microbial activity than soil moisture. The correlation coefficient between soil microbial activity and thatch moisture is 0.9366, and soil moisture is 0.299."
