Abstract/Contents: | "The water holding capacity of soil in root zone of sport turf could be improved by adding diatomite into the sand in turf bed. This study was conducted to evaluate the improvement of drought tolerance of bermudagrass by adding diatomite in different rates. The results showed that the growth rate, phytochemical efficiency, chlorophyll content, leaf relative water content could be increased by adding 5%, 10% and 15% of diatomite into the sand in root zone and maintained the lower electrolyte leakage compared to the pure sand control under drought stress. The improvement of drought tolerance was correlated to the application rate of diatomite. These results indicated that the improvement of drought tolerance by adding diatomite could result from the higher soil water content and the large root biomass under the drought stress." |
