Abstract/Contents:"An experiment, which studied the effect on morphological parameter and physiologica indexl [physiological index] of shading intensities on growth in Kentucky bluegrass, was made from May 1st to November 6th in 2009. The experiment was designed on the basis of many researches made both at home and abroad Many researchers demonstrate that the turfgrass grow worse in the shadow of the high building while it grow better between the low trees. In that case shading intensities is one of the most important influence factors on turfgrass. Six factors (the growth rate, turf quality, weight of grass clipping, SPAD content, relative conductivity, underground biomass of Poa pratensis under drought stress condition) were studied in four treatments on shading intensities. Four treatments contain natural light, slight shading, medium shading and heavy shading. The results showed that the high quality of turfgarass with medium shading could be obtained in dry season, while in rain season the better quality of turfgrass with heavy shading could be achieved. The moderate shading treatment not only could stimulate turfgrass growth and improve leaf color, but it could also reduces the relative conductivity and improve the quality of the turfgrass. Therefore, moderate shading treatment could be regarded as a turf maintenance measure to reduce the damage of hot and drought stress on Kentucky bluegrass turf in summer."
