Abstract/Contents:Waitea circinata var. circinata is a form of fungus that is similar to Rhizoctonia species and can often be confused. It is a fungus originally from Japan that has become fairly common in the United States since 2003 on golf course turfgrasses in different east and west coast states. Disease symptoms consist of a brown ring "patched" pattern, and the causal-fungus is difficult to manage with fungicides. In order to identify a new isolate from West Virginia, it is important to compare the new isolate with already known isolates through DNA. By collecting isolates from West Virginia, through replication of colonies on potato broth ager, DNA extraction, protein elimination and DNA sequencing, comparing a West Virginia isolate to a known W. circinata Pennsylvania isolate, it will be possible to confirm the identity of the West Virginia isolate."
