Abstract/Contents:"The theoretical basis of the use of water retaining agent was provided through the experiment in the effect of the application of water retaining agent in the soil with the different soil moisture conditions on two species of cool-season turfgrass seed germination.[Method] The effect of the different application amounts of water retaining agent on two species of cool-season turfgrass seed germination was researched with potted experiment in seedling-raising.[Results] As the sowing time was prolonged and the application amounts of water retaining agent was increased, the germination rate of tall spear and perennial ryegrass seed was gradually improved. When the amount of water retaining agent was 6 g/kg,the germination rate of two turfgrass varieties reached averagely to 53.83% and 77.16%,which was not significant difference with the treatment of 8 g/kg or 10 g/kg.the content of water in soil was rapidly decreased in the first 10 days after the treatments, and then, the rate of the content-decreasing of water in soil was slowed down in the treatment of low application amount and there was no variation in the treatment of high application amount of water retaining agent.[Conclusion] After the treatment, the rate of seed germination was significantly increased and the seedling growth was quickly increased.Under the drought condition, the content of moisture in soil could be improved by appropriate application amount of water retaining agent, which improved the seed germination and seedling growth."
