Abstract/Contents:"Trials evaluating the effectiveness of 0.4 kg ai ha-1 imazaquin or 0.2 + 0.06 kg ai ha-1 imazaquin + AC 263, 222 for growth regulation of common bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L) Pers.] were conducted during 1990 and 1991. Monthly applications of these imidazolinones were made from April through August of 1990 and May through August of 1991. The turfgrass received a single application of 34, 68, and 68 kg ha-1 of N, P(2)O(5), and K(2)O, respectively, in April of each year. Irrigation was applied only to insure active turf growth before treatment. Weekly measurements were made through 4 wk after treatment (WAT) evaluating % bermudagrass regrowth during spring transition (April, 1990 application date only), bermudagrass height, color, seed head number, and seed head height. A very slight, but significant reduction in % common bermudagrass regrowth was evident 4 WAT for imazaquin + AC 263, 222 in April, 1990. The treatment of imazaquin + AC 263, 222 consistently suppressed common bermudagrass growth more than imazaquin for any months' evaluations. Initial plot discoloration was more evident for imazaquin + AC 263, 222 across both years than imazaquin alone, but significant discoloration was not apparent for either treatment by 3 WAT in any monthly trial. In general, there were significant reductions in common bermudagrass height, seed head number, and seed head height through 4 WAT for all monthly evaluations except August, 1990 and June, 1991. The minimal growth regulator activity exhibited by the imidazolinone treatments during these months was probably due to comparatively lower rainfall totals during these trials (13.8 mm for August and 44.7 mm for June), resulting in less turf growth."
