| Abstract/Contents: | "Lime performs numerous functions on turf sports grounds when it comes to the improvement of the physical, chemical and biological factors. Due to its specific mechanisms burned lime, in a quantity of 2000 g per square meter, is a highly effective means of loosening and stabilising the ground of the building site. Calcium carbonate and magnesium calcium carbonate are recommended as fertilizers for recovery and maintenance purposes. The quantity of lime to be replaced annually, amounting to from 20 up to 60 g CaO per square meter (corresponding to from 40 up to 120 g calcium carbonate per square meter) depends on the type of soil, the amount of rainfall and the management system. The most important quality criterion of calcium carbonates is how fine the grinding is. Only with a high proportion of fine particles (smaller than 0.09 mm) can the pH value and the magnesium content of the soil be systematically influenced. When constructing sports grounds pure "lime sands" - in contrast to sands rich in lime - with a specifically defined spectre of the grain size and a high magnesium content can also be used without causing any problems." |
