Abstract/Contents:"The current use of herbicides in industrial asnd amenity situations in the UK is reviewed in the light of evidence of low level herbicide residues in some drinking water supplies, increasing pressure against herbicide use in public places, and curtailment of local authority budgets for weed control. The consequences of possible withdrawal of triazine herbicides for weed control on non-crop areas is considered; alternative programmes may involve applications of herbicides several times annually. In amenity plantings there is a need for a greater appreciation by landscape planners and spray operators of the properties of the herbicides used, to reduce plant damage problems. Possible means of improving standards with and without the use of herbicides are discussed."
