| Abstract/Contents: | "A survey is given of the turfgrass cultivar evaluation system in Europe. The system allows the breeder to present independent data on cultivar performance and is generally accepted by breeder and seed trade. From the data in the Variety Lists of France, Germany and the Netherlands advances in turfgrass breeding in Europe during the past 25 years are deduced. Sward density and leaf texture have improved, but there is still wide scope for further selection on disease resistance. Seed productivity has hardly increased. Theoretically, biotechnology can make a large contribution to further advances, but it is doubtful that these new techniques will be applied in the near future." |
