| Abstract/Contents: | "Dinitroaniline herbicides represent the dominate class of chemical compounds used for preemergence control of annual weeds in established stands of turfgrass today. Conservative estimates place their prevalence in excess of 75% of total acre treatments. With this widespread use and acceptance, it is important to understand their fate in the environment and the many factors that influence that fate. Two chemical properties commonly associated with this class of chemistry are volatility and photosensitivity. The specific role these two properties play in the loss of dinitroaniline herbicides will be discussed. Although the impact of photodecomposition and volatility on herbicide loss can not be ignored, their magnitude relative to the total dissipation scenario is generally overemphasized." |
