Abstract/Contents:"Research was performed over two years to evaluate overseeded perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) establishment in "Tifway" bermudagrass [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] following various diclofop - methyl [(+-) - 2 - [4 - (2, 4 - dichlorophenoxy) phenoxy] propanoic acid] application timings and rates. Application timings were made either 10, six, three or one week prior to overseeding. Rates ranged from 0.5 to 3.0 kg ha-1. Visual percent coverage was determined through 10 weeks after overseeding and dry weights were harvested in one study eight weeks after overseeding. Perennial ryegrass establishment was delayed four to six weeks by diclofop applications made within three weeks of winter overseeding. Diclofop rates > 0.84 kg ha-1 also delayed perennial ryegrass establishment five to six weeks after treatment. Turf managers using diclofop should time the last application no sooner than six weeks prior to the anticipated overseeding date and should not exceed 0.84 kg ha-1. A three to six week delay in establishment should be expected if rates exceed 0.84 kg ha-1."
