| Abstract/Contents: | "Sixty-three of the seventy-two cultivars and selections entered in the 1985 National Kentucky Bluegrass Test were established in Sep, 1985 at the Joseph Valentine Research Center in University Park, PA. The plots were 1.2 x 1.8 m and seeded at a rate of 1 kg per 100 m2. All treatments were replicated three times with a combination of 2,4-D/MCPP/dicamba to control broadleaf weeds. No fungicides or insecticides were used during the course of this test. The test site was irrigated only when necessary to prevent wilt. A uniform infestation of necrotic ring spot disease occurred at the site in Aug 1989. The plots were visually rated for percent disease injury on 18 Aug 1989. Significant differences were found in the resistance of Kentucky bluegrasses to necrotic ring spot, with most cultivars and selections showing good resistance to this disease. The cultivars or selections that were severely injured by this disease included `Amazon', 'HV 97', `Julie' and `Ikone'." |
