Abstract/Contents:"As a result of the limited global reserves of phosphates and the significant potential for sourcing phosphates from waste and sewage, the question arises as to whether recycled products are suitable for lawn fertilisation. On the basis of the product data, it is not always possible to safely predict the fertilisation effect. In a fertiliser experiment on sports turf with a low supply of phosphorous that was run over several years, the fertilisation effect of different fertilisers using recycled phosphates was tested in comparison to an unfertilised control subject and a reference fertiliser called Superphosphat. Redox bone ash and sewage sludge ash demonstrated a poorer fertilisation effect, magnesium- ammonium-phosphate a comparable fertilisation effect and bone meal a partially better fertilisation effect than Superphosphat. Further experiments which take into account fertilisers from different origins and recycling processes are required in order to be able to better predict the fertilisation effect of fertilisers based on recycled phosphates. In the case of phosphate fertilisers with a medium and low availability of phosphates, it is sensible to supplement them with fast dissolving phosphate fertilisers at the beginning of the vegetation period."
