| Abstract/Contents: | "The zoysiagrass mite (Eriophyes zoysiae) is host specific to zoysiagrass, (Zoysia spp.) and causes extensive growth reduction and is expressed as a tightly rolled leaf edge which retains the `buggy whip' leaf tip configuration. A greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate 16 genotypes of zoysiagrass for resistance to this mite. Plastic trays with 18 cells for grass plants were used and provided an easy to handle and evaluate experimental design. Assays of mite infestations were made ca. 6 and 8 weeks after artificial infestations by counting leaves expressing mite damage per plant. Three experimental genotypes (DALZ9006, DALZ8516, and DALZ8505) and `Emerald' showed very low infestation levels and were considerably resistant, while `Meyer', `Belair', and most experimentals were very susceptible to the mite. DALZ8501, DALZ8512, TC2033, and `El Toro' exhibited intermediate levels of infestation. General greenhouse observations indicate `Sunburst', `Korean Common', TGS-1310, TGS-W10, ITR90-3, and 0T2049 are very susceptible to the zoysiagrass mite." |
