| Abstract/Contents: | "Recent developments in pesticide technology have enabled turf managers to place granular and liquid formulations below the surface of the turf. Two kinds of application technology which are available to apply pesticides below the surface in turf (high pressure liquid injection and an adapted overseeder) were used to apply isazophos (Triumph TM) to golf course roughs in Massachusetts which were infested with Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica Newman) larvae. In each of four trials, isazophos applied sub-surface at 1.1 or 0.6 kg AI/ha performed as well as or better than conventionally (surface) at 2.2 kg AI/ha. While parallel studies using other active ingredients did not yield similar results, the apparent enhancement of efficacy of isazophos should provide turf managers with an alternative which can reduce the insecticide load on turf." |
