Abstract/Contents:"Late summer to early fall nitrogen fertilization of bermudagrass turf has been traditionally avoided on the premise that this cultural practice would increase winter injury. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of late season fertilization with and without applications of the biostimulants, fortified seaweed extract (FSE), and benzyladenine (BA), as well as chelate Fe to 'Tifgreen' bermudagrass (Cynodon spp). In mid to late October of 1989 and 1990, color was enhanced 1.5 fold when bermudagrass received 4 kg N ha-1 in September when compared to turf not fertilized at this time. No significant impediment of post-dormancy color or growth was obtained with high N fertility in the field or after control freezing in the greenhouse. Color was improved with application of Fe by 1.2 fold during October 1989 and the subsequent summer and in October 1990, only when no nitrogen was applied in September. However, the following summer transplanted propagula of Fe and FSE fall-treated bermudagrass enhanced turf coverage by 1.6 and 2.0 fold. When subjected to controlled freezing of dormant bermudagrass, subsequent coverage was enhanced over 2 fold with fall-treated FSE + BA and FSE in 1990. In 1991 controlled frozen bermudagrass treated with Fe or FSE + Fe increased post-dormancy rooting by 1.5 fold. Fall application of Fe and FSE generally enhanced post-dormancy growth."

per errata, "Nitrogen fertilization was reported erroneously. Nitrogen reported to have been applied at 2 and 4 kg per ha should have been 120 and 240 kg per ha, respectively."
