| Abstract/Contents: | "During the 1970s, forage-type perennial ryegrasses were bred with resistance to paraquat. It was shown that the level of tolerance in these grasses was sufficiently high to make possible the selective elimination of unsown grasses and rogues from forage swards and seed production fields of these cultivars by spraying with an appropriate rate of paraquat. By using standard hybridisation methods followed by recurrent mass selection it has been possible to transfer this resistance into turf-type perennial ryegrass." |
