Abstract/Contents:"Turf research in Australia is in a period of transition. Changes in government policy have altered traditional funding sources from federal government to industry and direct support for turf research institutes has been withdrawn. Senior researchers are now responsible for raising their own research funds, a task ofter alien to their skills. Industry has not yet risen to the challenge of financing research programs - there is little or no support for long-term pure science projects, and the support that is available demands a quick-fix for a short-term problem with a high chance of success assured. Plans are in place to establish a National Steering Committee and a Scientific Review Panel to encourage more ownership and commitment from industry for a coordinated national turfgrass research program."
