Abstract/Contents:"The advent of high-pressure liquid pulse injectors has created a new opportunity for the turf industry to increase turf health with decreased environmental impact. The effect of nozzle diameter, pulse duration and soil type on pulse penetration and soil fracturing need to be understood to utilize these machines effectively. Liquid, high-pressure injection depths into the root-zone of established turf in sandy and clay soils are documented. Studies with 0.096, 0.119 and 0.198 cm internal diameter tips provided increase liquid penetration as tip diameter increased. Injected liquids penetrated sandy soils approximately twice as deep as clay soils. Castings made from infected molten wax showed that injection cavities resembled a volumetric flask, a hollow entrance shaft with a bulb of liquid at the bottom. The soil was fractured in wafer-thin, fan-shaped cleavage plains in various directions from the bulb."
