Abstract/Contents: | "Because of their construction modern soccer fields let very often only a limited amount of natural light on their lawns. However, in order to maintain the high quality of the lawns of the German Bundesliga playgrounds, it is not enough to take measures for some extensive and costly maintenance of the lawns, it is also necessary to install additional sources of artificial light. For the additional sources of artificial light halogen lamps were used until now. Since 2013 tests are made in the green-house laboratory of the Institute of Sciences at the University of Munich in order to analyse the interdependencies between the different light sources and the different grass varieties. It was so possible to demonstrate that the modern LED technology is not only able to supplant the different existing lights yet, it can also ameliorate the light quality and is energy-saving. The LED technology allows an individual choice among different light sources which can be adapted to the different phases of grass growth as well as to the climatic environmental requirements of each football playground." |
