Abstract/Contents:Discusses the basic concepts behind growth regulation. In addition, two major categories of growth regulators are explained. Type I growth regulators inhibit both cell division and cell elongation and are primarily employed to suppress flowering (eg. Poa seedheads). Type II regulators suppress cell elongation, but not cell division. This leads to the characteristic morphology (broad leafed, short plants) of turf. "There is also some experimental evidence that indicates stolons of [type II growth regulator] treated plants become more prostrate and rosettelike (like a witches broom)."
