Abstract/Contents:"The aim of this practical experiment was to find out how far the quality of a rolled-turf changed when stored for longer and varying periods of time, as well as under different storage temperatures. It was also aimed at finding out how these alterations will affect the rolled-turf growth and development. It was also important to determine whether an additional irrigation used well in advance would have a positive or a negative impact on these proceedings. After having carefully prepared an experimental set-up, all the rolled-sods were put into air-conditioned cells. At the beginning of the experiment half of them were watered with three liters water each. All of them were thereafter put into different-tempered air-conditioned cells. The first watered and unwatered rolled-sods were removed out of the air-conditioned cells two days later. This proccess [process] was repeated the next five days until the last rolled-sods were removed too. All these rolled sods were subsequently brought on a pre-prepared field so that their growth and development could be analyzed. Measurable values as well as visual aspects and colors were determined for later examination with the help of a rating on a scale from one to eleven over a period of time till thirty-nine days. The analyzis [analysis] of these results revealed that successive storages with temperature interactions affected heavily the quality of the rolled-sods, in such a way that the damages were still to be seen after several weeks. Low storage temperatures, even by longer storage intervals, were less damaging. The higher water content in the rolled-sods due to the additional watering had an undeniable positive affect on their quality. The stricking [striking] characteristics of this storage type was its minimal quality loss as well as the fastest regeneration of the rolled-sods during their development proccess [process]."
