Abstract/Contents:"The changes of physiological metabolism of 4 Festuca rubra turfgrass cultivars (Echo, Gondolin, Mystic and Bargena II) were studied in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China in 2005-06 under 4 different shading treatments (0, 30-35, 50-55, and 70-75%) by measuring chlorophyll content, soluble sugar content and soluble protein content. Under shading conditions, average chlorophyll content in leaves increased but chlorophyll a:b ratio decreased. The seasonal change of chlorophyll content from 25 June to 25 August 2006 under the shading conditions showed that the chlorophyll content increased first and then decreased, but the chlorophyll a:b ratio showed a trend of increase-decrease-increase. The solubles sugar content from 29 June to 29 September 2006 under the shading conditions displayed a decrease trend, as well as the soluble protein content from 1 July to 1 October 2006, and meanwhile the decrease speeds of the 2 indices increased with the shading level."
