Abstract/Contents: | Due to the vast array of shredding machines available, the size of material to be shredded can determine the kind of machine most ideally suited to the task. Other factors to consider are the amounts of power the machine needs, its mobility, and its source of power. Special attention is given to the safe operation of these machines, stressing the importance of purchasing a machine only if it bears a mark that it upholds legal safety standards, meaning that it has low risk of kickbacks, that its power cable(s) are well out of the way of its intake, and that its blades shut off when the intake door is opened. The wearing of a helmet, safety glasses, hearing protection and protective gloves is regarded as the bare minimum of safety precautions that should be taken when operating such machines. |
