| Abstract/Contents: | "There is a connection between the seepage quantity on sports grounds and the irrigation and fertilization to keep it functioning and the charging of seepage water, caused by the washing out of nutrients. A series of experiments, comprising eight different varieties of turf carrying layers in container lysimeters is carried out at present by the Bavarian Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture in Wuerzburg/Veitshoechheim to find out to what extent it will be possible to diminish the washing out of nutrients by incorporating, into the turf carrying layer, additions of clay which will bind nutrients. The gist of the problem is to investigate the flowing capacity in connection with the nutrient loss. Investigated are also the vitality of grasses and the closing of the sward. Another experiment deals with the collection of organic matter on extremely meager turf carrying layers. The question is, whether the disappearance of the thatch can be improved by adding sand to clay-containing material in connection with the application of mineral or organic fertilizer and mechanical treatment of the soil." |
