| Abstract/Contents: | "Control of wild garlic (Allium vineale L.) and wild onion (Allium canadense L.) with imazaquin is common practicie with many turf managers. Its use for the control of other winter weeds alone and in combination with pendimethalin was investigated. Field studies were conducted to evaluate the performance of imazaquin and imazaquin + pendimethalin for the control of winter annual weeds such as annual bluegrass (Poa annua L.), lawn burweed (Soliva ptreosperma (Jussieu) Lessing), henbit (Lamium aplexicaule L.) and corn speedwell (Veronica arvensis L.) Applications were made in the fall of the year on semi-dormant common and tifway 419 bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) using a CO2 backpack sprayer. Experimental design was a randomized complete block. Timing of herbicide application were made preemergence to mid postemergence to the weed species. Imazaquin provided very good preemergence and postemergence control of weeds evaluated however, showed reduced effectivieness on annual bluegrass and corn speedwell. The combination of imazaquin + pendimethalin was effective in controlling weeds tested including corn speedwell and annual bluegrass and provided similar weed control to applications of simazine." |
