| Abstract/Contents: | "Diclofop-methyl, trade name Illoxan, is a highly effective herbicide for the control of goosegrass (Eleusine Indica) in bermudagrass turf. Postemergence applications of Illoxan causes less phytotoxicity to bermudagrass turf and more consistent goosegrass control than presently labeled postemergence compounds. For these reasons, Hoechst-Roussel Agri-Vet Company was granted a FIFRA Section 24C for Illoxan in 1989 for goosegrass control in all cultivars of bermudagrass turfs on golf courses and sod farms under a special local need in Florida. In 1990, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina were granted Section 24C's for the same use. Illoxan can be applied to bermudagrass turf at 0.75 to 1.5 lbai/A for control of goosegrass from 1 leaf up to 2 tillers. Illoxan is most effective on highly maintained turf where the goosegrass is closely mowed but not maintained at less that 5/16 inch cutting height. Goosegrass efficacy with Illoxan is reduced in higher mowed turf such as "rough" areas. For optimum results, Illoxan should be applied when maximum goosegrass leaf area is present. After application the treated areas should not be mowed for a minimum of 36 hours to allow time for penetration into the leaves. At the present time, Illoxan is not registered for use with any other pesticides. Treated areas should not be overseeded for at least two months in Florida and three months in other states after application. Illoxan can only be applied to established bermudagrass turf with stolons at least four inches long." |
