| Abstract/Contents: | "Trials in 1969-71 gave information on herbicide control of annual meadow-grass in three different fine turf situations. Methabenzthiazuron, at rates in the range 1.6 - 7.05 kg/ha, was used in two trials to remove annual meadow-grass from red fescue and browntop bent at sowing: some treatments have been effective against the weed, and moderately safe on the fescue, but have eliminated the bent. In a trial of treatments to prevent annual meadow-grass invasion of established turf, repeated annual applications of bensulide at 11.2 and 14.0 kg/ha have shown the most persistent exclusion of the weed, but also some damage to the turfgrasses. In trials with asulam, buturon and endothal to remove established annual meadow-grass from a predominantly red fescue turf, the greatest success was obtained with repeated applications of endothal at 0.53 kg/ha, although at the expense of temporary unsightliness." |
