| Abstract/Contents: | "A very important parameter concerning the quality of a sports pitch covered with turf is its hardness degree. It has a decisive impact as well on the power reduction as on the ball reflexions. As a consequence the Clegg hammer seems to be a practicable measuring instrument when evaluating the hardness degree of the surface of a soccer pitch. Furthermore, it allows the greenkeepers to obtain not only exact but also rapid and reproductible information on the hardness and evenness of a sports pitch. The documentation and the resulting evaluation of the measurements are for the greekeepers another tool of great value. It is therefore imperative to standarize the methods of measurement in practice in order to obtain more reliable results." |
