| Abstract/Contents: | "Summer patch is one of the most destructive diseases of cool-season turf in North America. Prior to 1984, it was an unidentified component of Fusarium Blight. Summer patch has been reported on annual bluegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, and fine fescue." Fungicides such as fenarimol, propiconazole, triadimefon, and benzimidazoles have proven to be effective as preventive measures when used correctly. A more environmentally sound method for preventing summer patch is the use of good cultural methods. Avoid mowing turf below recommended heights. Aerification will reduce compaction and decrease the incidence and severity of the disease. Maintaining the soil pH between 5.5 and 6.0 will further decrease the chances of summer patch. Although the cultural methods may take longer to reduce the disease severity, they are more environmetally sound. |
