Abstract/Contents:Cattle production and success of the livestock industry depends greatly on the availability of quality forages or ryegrass needed for grazing and hay. During the fall of 1971, a new ryegrass disease was discovered in Mississippi and Louisiana. This epidemic, known as ryegrass blast because of its severity, reduced ryegrass forage yields in both states. A description of the symptoms, causal organisms, epidemiology, characteristics, and sources of this disease are discussed.
