Abstract/Contents:"Depending on temperatures the grass blades keep growing. Even tiny parts of them remain active photosynthetically. When the blades are altering, many substances are recycled in younger blades. Scars of cuts as well as of bites cause lesions which must be tended until they heal. The healing period of time depends on the structure of the lesions as well as of the temperature. The plain and clean the lesion is, the better it heals. The choice of the best level for a cut has a great influence on a turf as well for the roots as for the form oft he [of the] sods. Secondary roots, such as those of grass, no longer come into consideration as reservoir for nutrient. Grass store nutrient in their leaf sheathes. In consequence, the cut determines the importance of the storage. In case of complete defoliation the growth oft he [of the] grass is disturbed. Other processes, such as their root building, are stopped while their leaves still grow 48 hours after their photosynthese surface is removed. The newly built-leaves alter. They grow bigger and simplier. A little bit later on, they become once more completely active photosynthetically. Up to the three leaves phase a vegetable sprout is built with every new leaf. The faster the leaves are built, the thicker will be the sod. Grass varieties which can be cut without problems, build quicker new simple leaves. Varieties, which cant stand cuts, have more complex leaves. They need a longer time to grow and cant be replaced very fast by new ones. The sprout loses the same quantity of nutrient with each leaf. Fast-growing varieties need more nutrient, while varieties which grow slowly on nutrient-poor emplacements contribute to save nutrient."
