Abstract/Contents:"Fungicides were applied on 8 Apr and blighting of foliage by L. fuciformis was actively occurring. Fungicides were applied with a CO-2 pressurized (36 psi) sprayer calibrated to deliver 2.5 gal water per 1000 sq. ft. Soil was a Chillum silt loam with a pH of 6.4 and 2.6% OM. Plots were 5 by 5 ft, and were arranged in a randomized complete block with three replications. Percent of plot area blighted was visually assessed on a linear 0 to 100% scale. Treatments with blight ratings exceeding 2% of plot area blighted would be considered unacceptable control on a golf course fairway. Overall turf quality was determined visually on a 0 to 10 scale where 0 = brown or dead turf, and 10 = optimum greenness and density. Disease pressure was moderately severe. Plots were first rated for blighting 40 days after treatment on 18 May. At that time, all fungicides except Daconil 2787 82.5DG had reduced disease injury significantly. Eagle, RH07592 and RH 0611 were providing marginally acceptable control, but the level of disease suppression provided by Daconil 2787 82.5DG was judged unacceptable. Percent of plot area blighted changed little between 18 and 29 May. Overall turf quality data also provide a good indication of disease control. Best quality was associated with turf treated with Sentinel and EXP 10064C + Chipco 26019, and EXP 10357A + Chipco 26019 on 29 May. Data collected 9 Jun showed that Sentinel, EXP 10064C + Chipco 26019, and EXP 10357A + Chipco 26019 had provided an exceptional level of residual red thread control. The area was assessed for weed invasion on 25 Aug. Plots treated with Sentinel, EXP 10064C + Chipco 26019, and EXP 10357A + Chipco 26019 had lowest smooth crabgrass and prostrate spurge levels."
