Abstract/Contents:"This study was initiated as a Rhizoctonia blight evaluation, but weather conditions were cool and moist, and only severe levels of dollar spot developed in the study area. The study was conducted on a ryegrass fairway of unknown cultivars at Woodholme Country Club in Pikesville, MD. Treatments were applied 16 Jul using a wheel-driven pump sprayer (Paddock Master) equipped with two flood jet nozzles. The ProStar + Sentinel treatment was applied in 5.0 gal water per 1000 ft2, whereas the other two treatments were applied in 2.5 gal water per 1000 ft2. Plots were 10 by 20 ft, and were arranged in a randomized complete block with four replications. Soil was a loam with a pH of 5.8. Blighting was visually assessed on a linear 0 to 100% scale where 0 = no disease and 100 = entire plot area blighted. Overall quality was visually determined on a 0 to 10 scale where 0 = entire plot area brown or dead and 10 = optimum greenness and density. Disease pressure was severe. Dollar spot developed in the site in early Aug. Plots rated 14 Aug (i.e. 29 days after application) showed that all treatments provided excellent dollar spot control. Environmental conditions were ideal for dollar spot and data collected 28 Aug (i.e. 43 days after treatment) revealed that good control was still being provided in plots treated with PorStar tank-mixed with either Sentinel or Bayleton. The residual effectiveness of ProStar + Banner had dissipated. As a result, plots treated with either Sentinel or Bayleton exhibited better quality than Banner or non-fungicide treated plots on 28 Aug."
