Abstract/Contents:"Fungicides were evaluated on a zoysiagrass fairway at the Highlands Country Club, Hutchinson, KS. Applications were made on 18 Sep 91 before symptoms of large patch were present and while the zoysiagrass was actively growing (i.e., not dormant). Fungicides were applied with a CO2- powered backpack sprayer with 8004 Tee Jet nozzles at 20 psi in water equivalent to 4.5 gal/1000 ft2. Plots were irrigated with approximately 1/4 in. of water immediately after fungicide application. Plots were 12 X 10 ft and arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replicates. Plots were rated on 28 Apr 92 for the number of patches in each plot; the percentage plot area diseased; and the relative activity of the disease (0-5 scale, where 0 = no disease activity, and 5 = extremely active with patch enlargement of 6 or more in. since turfgrass regrowth following dormancy). Symptoms of large patch did not develop in the fall of 1991; however, the disease was severe in Apr 92. All fungicides tested except Prostar, Curalan, and Broadway reduced (p < 0.05) large patch severity in the Spring. Applications of Banner, Eagle, CGA 173506, EXP 10064B, and Lynx reduced the number and size of patches and suppressed patch expansion after winter dormancy. This suggests that early fall fungicide applications may reduce fungal inoculum or inhibit stolon colonization by the fungus in late fall and winter, thus suppressing disease development in early spring."
