Abstract/Contents:"Fungicide treatments were evaluated on an Experimental Green at the Agronomy Research Center, Purdue University. The turf area received conventional golf course care and was maintained at 0.25 in height. Treatments were applied to 3.3 x 6.6 ft plots arranged in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. A hand held CO-2 pressurized sprayer with 11003 LP flat fan nozzles at 22 psi and at a rate of 2 gal/1000 sq ft was used to apply to each treatment. A single application of each treatment was made on either 26 May, 2, 9 or 16 Jun. These application dates were intended to be either 7, 14, 21, or 28 days prior to the inoculation date scheduled for 21 Jun. However, unseasonably cold weather occurred and the inoculation date was delayed until 2 Jul. Due to continued below normal temperatures, no disease development occurred from the 2 Jul inoculation. Therefore, a second inoculation was made on 8 Jul. The first inoculation was made in the north half of each plot, while the second inoculation was made in the south half of each plot. Cultures of R. solani were grown on sterile white sorghum grain Erlenmeyer flasks for 14 days. Inoculations were made by placing 5 infested sorghum grains into the upper thatch layer with a hand-jab planter in each of two locations in each plot. All plots were covered with a plastic tent stretched over wire hoops each evening and uncovered in the morning for two successive nights. Brown patch data were taken on 16 Jul. Cool weather, especially at night, limited disease development. Disease development was determined by measuring the diameter of each patch to the nearest millimeter. Eleven treatments suppressed brown patch development significantly (P = 0.05) below the control. MON 24001 50WG 1.0 oz and MON 24001 50WG 1.50 oz suppressed brown patch development for up to 51 days after one treatment."
