Abstract/Contents:"Trials were conducted on the Turfgrass Research Plots at the Horticulture Research Station of Iowa State University near Ames, IA. Fungicides were applied to Emerald bentgrass maintained at a 5/32-inch cutting height, using a modified bicycle sprayer at 30 psi and a dilution rate of 5 gal/1000 sq ft. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replications. All plots measured 4 ft x 5 ft. The entire plot was inoculated with rye grain infested with the dollar spot pathogen on 22 May. Fungicide applications began on 2 Jun and continued on 9, 16, 23, and 30 Jun, 7, 14, 21, and 28 Jul, and 4, 11, and 18 Aug. The number of dollar spot infection centers per plot was counted on 30 Jun, 15 Jul, and 3 Aug. Weather during the study period was unusually cool, and Jul was exceptionally rainy. Disease pressure was moderate during the test period. Several materials were not significantly better for disease control than the untreated check on at least two rating dates: Chipco 26019 Flo and WDG at 2 oz. and a 28-day interval; and tank mixes of EXP 10357 A with Chipco at 28 days. Other treatments varied widely in efficacy. PCNB 75W at the 10 oz. rate and a 7-day interval caused moderately severe yellowing and browning of the turf in Jul and Aug. Hexaconazole at the 6 g a.i. rate and 21-day interval caused a slight-browning of turf on 30 Jun, but not on later rating dates."
