| Abstract/Contents: | Four years' trials are described on the use of growth inhibitors to prevent the encroachment of weeds into plots of turf grasses grown for seed. The inhibitors maleic hydrazide, DF 125 (a chlorflurenol preparation), Legurame (containing carbetamide) and NC 8438 (2-ethoxy-2,3-dihydro- 3,3-dimethyl-5-benzofuranylmethanesulphonate) were applied separately or in combination, or with herbicides, to either mixed stands of grasses and dicotyledonous weeds or mixed grass stands. Their effects on some 13 individual grass species with regard to growth retardation, prevention of flower-stalk production and grass color were also studied. |
