| Abstract/Contents: | Herbicides were applied to an established Kentucky bluegrass/red fescue turf on a silt loam soil before and after the emergence of crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum). Generally safe control was effected by Bandane [polychlorodicyclopentadiene isomers], benfluralin, bensulide, chlorthal, nitralin, siduron and terbucarb; chlorthal caused some thinning of the fescue. Half rates of Bandane, bensulide, chlorthal, nitralin or siduron, applied in spring as follow-up treatments 1 year after the application of full rates, gave good to excellent control. Siduron alone at 10#, and mixtures of DSMA 3# with bensulide, chlorthal or siduron (all 10#) gave good to excellent control of Digitaria spp. at the 1- to 2-leaf stage. Siduron + chlorthal also gave excellent control of Digitaria spp. at the 4- to 5-leaf stage. |
